Exercise for Glowing Skin: A Simple Home Workout Plan
Share
Skincare is not only what you put on your face. Moving your body, sleeping well and eating well all shape how you look and feel, and regular exercise is one of the easiest of those habits to start at home. This plan needs no equipment and about 20 minutes.
Why movement belongs in a skin routine
Exercise gets your heart pumping and your blood moving, and most people notice a flushed, fresh look straight after a workout. Regular movement also tends to help with sleep and stress, two habits that show on the face when they slip. It is not a replacement for skincare, but it is a good partner to it.
The 20-minute home workout
Do each move for 40 seconds, rest for 20 seconds, then move to the next. Go through the full circuit twice.
Warm-up (3 minutes)
- March on the spot, swinging your arms.
- Shoulder rolls forward and back.
- Gentle side bends and hip circles.
The circuit
- Squats. Feet hip-width apart, sit back as if into a chair, then stand.
- Wall or knee push-ups. Keep your body in a straight line.
- Jumping jacks or step jacks. Step out one foot at a time for a lower-impact version.
- Glute bridges. Lie on your back, knees bent, and lift your hips.
- Plank. On your forearms or hands, knees down if needed.
- Alternating lunges. Hold a wall or chair for balance if you need to.
- High knees. Or fast marching for a gentler option.
Cool-down (3 minutes)
- Slow walking on the spot.
- Hamstring, quad and chest stretches, 20 seconds each.
- A few slow, deep breaths.
How often
Aim for three to five sessions a week. On other days, a brisk 20 to 30 minute walk counts too. Consistency matters more than intensity.
Skincare before you exercise
- Remove makeup first so it does not sit in your pores while you sweat.
- If you are working out outdoors in daylight, wear sunscreen.
- Tie your hair back and keep a clean towel nearby. Pat your face, do not rub.
Skincare after you exercise
- Rinse or cleanse your face soon after you finish. Sweat left on the skin for hours can leave it feeling congested.
- Follow with your usual serum and a light moisturiser.
- Drink water to replace what you lost.
- Change out of sweaty clothes, especially if you get breakouts on your back or chest.
Fitting it into a busy day
- Lay out your workout clothes the night before.
- Split the workout into two 10-minute rounds if 20 minutes feels long.
- Pair it with something you already do, such as right after your morning tea.
- Track it. A simple tick on a calendar is surprisingly motivating.

Is yoga enough? Yes, yoga counts as movement. Mixing it with some walking or strength moves gives you variety.
Should I exercise with makeup on? It is better to take it off first.
What if I have a health condition? Check with your doctor before starting a new exercise plan.
