Face Yoga for Forehead Lines: A Gentle 5-Minute Routine
Share
Many of us frown at screens, raise our eyebrows when we talk, or squint in the sun all day without noticing. Over time, the forehead can hold a lot of tension. Face yoga for the forehead is about learning to relax those muscles, and many people find it a calming part of their evening. Here is a gentle 5-minute routine.
Before you start
- Start with a clean face and clean hands.
- Apply a few drops of serum, face oil or moisturiser so your fingers glide.
- Sit tall with relaxed shoulders, in front of a mirror.
- Move slowly and gently. Nothing should hurt.
The 5-minute routine
1. Notice and release (30 seconds)
Look in the mirror and raise your eyebrows, then let them drop. Frown, then let go. Notice how the relaxed forehead feels. This awareness is the most useful part of the practice.
2. Forehead smoothing (1 minute)
Place all your fingertips in the centre of your forehead. Slide them slowly outward to the temples with light pressure. Repeat 10 times.
3. Upward strokes (1 minute)
Using alternating hands, stroke upward from the eyebrows to the hairline, moving across the forehead from left to right and back.
4. Brow hold (1 minute)
Place your index fingers along your eyebrows. Gently hold the brows down while you try to raise them, for 5 seconds, then relax. Repeat 5 times.
5. Between-the-brows release (1 minute)
Place two fingers between your brows and make small, slow circles outward. Then press gently for a few breaths and release.
6. Temple circles (30 seconds)
Finish with slow circles at your temples, then rest your palms over your eyes for a few breaths.
How often
Once a day, or a few times a week, is plenty. The evening works well because you are already applying skincare.
Everyday habits for a relaxed forehead
- Wear sunglasses outdoors so you squint less.
- Check your screen: increase text size and brightness so you do not lean in and frown.
- Take screen breaks every 20 minutes.
- Notice your face during the day. If your brows are raised or knitted, let them drop.
- Wear sunscreen on the forehead every day.
- Keep skin moisturised; lines look more visible on dry skin.
What to expect
Face yoga is a relaxing habit and a good way to notice tension. It works best alongside sunscreen, moisturiser and good sleep. Give it a few weeks and see how your face feels.
