How to Do a Facial at Home: A Simple 6-Step Routine

A facial at home does not need special machines or a long list of products. With a few steps and about 30 minutes, you can give your skin some extra care and enjoy a relaxing break. Here is a simple routine.

Before you start

  • Pick a calm time, such as a weekend evening.
  • Tie your hair back and wash your hands.
  • Keep everything ready: cleanser, a soft towel, a face mask, a face oil or serum, moisturiser and, for daytime, sunscreen.
  • Use only products you have already patch-tested.

Step 1: Cleanse (2 minutes)

Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water. If you wore makeup or sunscreen, cleanse twice. Pat dry.

Step 2: Warm towel (2 minutes)

Soak a clean towel in warm (not hot) water, wring it out and rest it over your face for a minute or two. Many people find this relaxing before a mask. Avoid steam or very hot water, which can leave skin irritated.

Step 3: Face mask (10 to 15 minutes)

Apply an even layer of a mask that suits your skin. The Revive Face Mask combines multani mitti and kaolin with rose, aloe vera, haldi and chandan, and is left on for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water before it dries and cracks.

If your skin is very dry, use a hydrating mask instead, or apply clay only on oily areas.

Step 4: Face massage (5 to 10 minutes)

Apply a little face oil, then massage with your fingertips or a tool, always using light upward strokes.

  • Neck: upward, from collarbone to jaw.
  • Jaw: from chin out towards the ears.
  • Cheeks: from nose out to the ears.
  • Forehead: from the brows up to the hairline.

The Kansa Wand is 100% bronze and is used with oil in upward strokes for 5 to 10 minutes.

Step 5: Serum (1 minute)

Wipe away excess oil if needed, then apply a serum. The Brightfix C Serum uses orange and lemon extracts with essential oils. Use a few drops and massage in gently.

Step 6: Moisturise and protect (2 minutes)

At night, finish with a moisturiser or night cream. The Night Repair Cream combines hyaluronic acid and retinol. During the day, finish with moisturiser and sunscreen instead, and save retinol products for night.

How often?

Once a week is plenty for most people. Daily cleansing, moisturising and sunscreen do the everyday work.

Make it a ritual

  • Play music you like.
  • Drink a glass of water before and after.
  • Go to bed a little earlier that night.

Common mistakes

  • Using very hot water or steam.
  • Scrubbing hard or squeezing spots.
  • Trying many new products in one facial.
  • Pressing hard during massage.
