Kansa Wand Body Massage: How to Use It on Arms, Legs and Shoulders
Share
Most people know the kansa wand as a face tool, but it is traditionally used on the body and feet too. A slow body massage with a kansa wand after a long day can feel deeply relaxing. Here is a simple routine you can follow at home.
What is a kansa wand?
Kansa is a bronze alloy used in Ayurveda for utensils and massage tools. A kansa wand has a smooth, rounded bronze head on a wooden handle. The Kansa Wand from Theraglam is made from 100% bronze, works for face, body and foot, and comes with a cotton pouch for storage.
What you need
- Your kansa wand, clean and dry.
- A body oil such as coconut, sesame or almond oil.
- A towel to sit or lie on.
- About 10 to 15 minutes.
Step-by-step body massage
1. Prepare
Warm a little oil between your palms and spread it over the area you will massage. The wand should glide, never drag.
2. Arms (2 to 3 minutes)
Start at the wrist and move the wand up towards the elbow in long, slow strokes. Then from the elbow up to the shoulder. Make small circles around the elbow. Repeat on the other arm.
3. Shoulders and upper back (2 to 3 minutes)
Make small circles on the tops of your shoulders, where many people hold tension from sitting at a desk or looking at a phone. Then glide from the base of the neck outward towards each shoulder. Ask someone to help with the upper back if you can.
4. Legs (3 to 4 minutes)
Start at the ankle and glide up towards the knee in long strokes. Make gentle circles around the knee, then continue from the knee up the thigh. Repeat on the other leg.
5. Feet (2 to 3 minutes)
Finish with the soles of the feet, making small circles from heel to toes. Many people find this the most relaxing part, especially before bed.
How often
The product guide suggests gentle upward strokes for 5 to 10 minutes daily. For the body, many people enjoy a longer session two or three times a week, and a quick foot massage on other nights.
Tips for a better massage
- Light to medium pressure. It should feel good, not painful.
- Move towards the heart in long strokes on arms and legs.
- Breathe slowly and keep the room quiet and warm.
- Shower or wipe off extra oil afterwards if you like.
Cleaning and care
Wipe the bronze head with a soft cloth after each use. Wash with mild soap and water now and then, and dry it completely. Bronze can darken over time, which is normal. Store it in its cotton pouch.
When to avoid massage
- On broken skin, cuts, rashes or sunburn.
- Over varicose veins or areas that are swollen or painful.
- During pregnancy, or with a health condition, without checking with your doctor first.
Make it part of your evening
A body massage pairs well with a warm shower and an early night. Keep your phone away, put on calm music, and give yourself these few minutes.
