Night Cream for Oily Skin: Do You Need One and How to Use It

Many people with oily skin skip night cream completely, worried it will make them greasier. But oily skin can still feel dry or tight after cleansing, and skipping moisture altogether is a common mistake. The answer is usually not "no night cream" but "the right amount of the right one".

Does oily skin need a night cream?

Oil and hydration are not the same thing. Oily skin can still need moisture. If your skin feels tight after washing at night, a light layer of moisturiser or night cream may feel more comfortable.

What to look for

  • Non-comedogenic, meaning it is formulated not to clog pores.
  • A texture you like that absorbs well.
  • Ingredients that suit your goals.

Our night cream

The Night Repair Cream has hyaluronic acid and retinol, and is made for dark circles, pigmentation, blemishes and dryness. It is dermatologist-tested, non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic, suits all skin types, and is used nightly.

Because it contains retinol, start slowly if your skin is new to it, and wear sunscreen every morning. See retinol and hyaluronic acid together.

How to use it on oily skin

  1. Cleanse gently to remove oil, sunscreen and makeup.
  2. Pat dry.
  3. Use a pea-sized amount for the whole face.
  4. Warm it between fingertips and press it in.
  5. Use less on the T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) if it gets oily, and a little more on drier areas.

A lighter alternative

Some nights, you may prefer an overnight mask instead. The HydraRenew Collagen Overnight Mask has hyaluronic acid, hydrolyzed collagen, multi-peptides and aloe vera. You apply it at night and rinse it off in the morning, and it leaves no residue on your pillow. Use one or the other on a given night, not both. See overnight mask vs night cream.
