Oily Skin in Winter: How to Balance Shine and Dryness

Many people with oily skin expect winter to be easy. Instead, they find their face shiny in the T-zone and tight on the cheeks at the same time. Cold air, heaters and hot showers dry the skin, while the skin keeps producing oil. The answer is a routine that cleanses gently and hydrates lightly.

Why oily skin changes in winter

  • Cold, dry air leaves the skin's surface feeling dehydrated.
  • Hot water and harsh face washes strip the skin.
  • Skipping moisturiser because the skin is oily.

A simple winter routine

Morning

  1. Cleanse gently with lukewarm water.
  2. Apply a light, hydrating layer. Gel textures suit many oily skin types.
  3. Sunscreen. Winter sun still counts.

Night

  1. Cleanse to remove sunscreen and oil.
  2. A light gel or moisturiser.

The Time Rewind Gel is a lightweight gel with Swiss apple cell extract, pro retinol and hyaluronic acid, applied to face and neck with upward massage. Pro retinol products are usually used at night, with sunscreen in the morning.

Clay masks, used less often

Clay masks absorb oil, which is why oily skin loves them in summer. In winter, many people use them less often or only on the T-zone. The Revive Face Mask combines multani mitti and kaolin with rose, aloe vera, kapoor kachri, haldi, chandan and nagarmotha, plus zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes. In winter, use it on oily areas and rinse before it dries and cracks, then moisturise.

Hydration for oily skin

Oily skin still needs water. Humectants such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin and aloe vera help skin hold water without a heavy feel. A few nights a week, an overnight mask adds a hydrating step. The HydraRenew Collagen Overnight Mask contains hyaluronic acid, hydrolyzed collagen, multi-peptides and aloe vera, is used overnight on face and neck and is rinsed off in the morning, with no pillow residue.
