Skin Prep Before an Event: A Calm 7-Day Plan
Share
A wedding function, an office party, a festival evening or a photoshoot: when a big day is coming, it is tempting to try a dozen new products. The best prep is usually the opposite. Keep your routine simple and steady, focus on hydration and sleep, and avoid surprises.
The golden rule: nothing new in the last week
A new product, facial or treatment can cause redness or breakouts in some people. If you want to try something new, do it at least two to three weeks before the event. In the final week, stick to what you know your skin likes.
Days 7 to 4: steady and simple
- Morning: gentle cleanse, serum if you use one, moisturiser, sunscreen.
- Night: cleanse, serum, moisturiser.
- Drink water through the day and add fruit and vegetables to every meal.
- Sleep at a regular time. This week, sleep is your best skincare.
- Move: a daily walk or light workout helps you feel fresh and sleep well.
Days 3 to 2: gentle care
- One familiar face mask, if you already use one. Not a new one.
- Gentle face massage with your moisturiser for two to three minutes at night.
- Go easy on very salty food and alcohol, which can leave the face puffy.
- Do any hair removal or threading now, not on the day, so any redness settles.
The night before
- Remove makeup and cleanse gently.
- Hydrate: a hydrating serum and a comfortable moisturiser, or an overnight mask you already know. The HydraRenew Collagen Overnight Mask combines hyaluronic acid, hydrolyzed collagen, multi-peptides and aloe vera, and is rinsed off in the morning.
- Sleep on a clean pillowcase and try to get to bed on time.
- Lay out what you need for the morning so you are not rushing.
On the day
- Splash your face with cool water or cleanse gently.
- Light moisturiser, applied with a short upward massage.
- Sunscreen if you will be outdoors, and give it a few minutes before makeup.
- Drink a glass of water and eat a proper meal before you go.
- Carry blotting paper for shine instead of adding more powder.
After the event
However late it is, remove your makeup and cleanse before bed. Follow with moisturiser. Your skin will thank you the next morning.
Mistakes to avoid
- A first-time facial or peel in the last few days.
- Scrubbing hard to get "glowing" skin quickly.
- Squeezing a spot the night before. It usually makes it more visible.
- Staying up late to try every product.
- DIY remedies like lemon or raw spices on the face.
Planning further ahead
If your event is a few months away, you have time to build a real routine. Start now, keep it consistent, and take a photo every two weeks in the same light to see how your skin is doing.
