Winter Hair Care: A Simple Routine for Dry, Cold Months

As the weather cools, many people notice their hair feels drier, frizzier and harder to manage. Cold, dry air outside, heaters inside and the temptation of very hot showers all play a part. A few simple changes help your hair through the winter months.

Why hair can feel drier in winter

  • Dry air outdoors and indoors.
  • Very hot water for showers and hair washing.
  • Woollen caps and scarves rubbing against hair.
  • Drinking less water when it is cold.

Your winter routine

Oil before you wash (1 to 2 times a week)

Oil your scalp and lengths an hour or two before washing. The Hair Revival Oil is a 100ml oil with bhringraj, amla, onion seed and black seed oil. It is made for all hair types and genders and is free of parabens and sulfates.

  1. Part your hair and apply a little oil to the scalp with your fingertips.
  2. Massage gently in small circles for a few minutes.
  3. Smooth the rest along the lengths and ends.

Wash gently

  • Use lukewarm water, not very hot.
  • Use a mild shampoo and focus it on the scalp.
  • Do not wash more often than you need to.

Mask (2 to 3 times a week)

The Root Revival Hair Mask combines amla, bhringraj and black sesame oil. Apply it to damp hair, massage for 2 to 3 minutes, leave for 15 to 20 minutes and rinse.

Dry gently

  • Pat hair dry with a soft towel or a cotton t-shirt.
  • Let it air-dry where you can, in a warm room.
  • Do not go out in the cold with wet hair if you can avoid it.
  • Use heat tools on a lower setting and less often.

Daily habits

  • Line woollen caps with cotton or silk to reduce friction.
  • Comb gently with a wide-tooth comb, starting from the ends.
  • Keep drinking water, even when you are not thirsty.
  • Eat well: include protein, vegetables, nuts and seeds.
  • Use a soft pillowcase and tie hair loosely at night.

Common mistakes

  • Very hot showers on cold mornings.
  • Sleeping with wet hair.
  • Tight hairstyles under caps all day.
  • Too much oil that needs harsh washing to remove.

If your scalp is very itchy, flaky or sore, or you notice unusual hair loss, see a doctor or dermatologist.

Quick questions

Should I oil my hair more in winter? Many people oil once or twice a week. If your hair feels dry, focus a little more on the lengths and ends rather than adding lots of oil to the scalp.

Can men follow this routine? Yes. Hair Revival Oil is made for all hair types and genders, and the same gentle habits apply.

Is it fine to wash hair less in winter? Wash as often as your scalp needs. Oily scalps may still need regular washing, just with lukewarm water and a mild shampoo.
