Skincare During Exams: Simple Habits for Busy Study Weeks

Exam season often means late nights, long hours at a desk, skipped meals and plenty of stress. Many students notice their skin looks tired or breaks out more during these weeks. You do not have time for a complicated routine, and you do not need one. A few minutes a day and some simple habits are enough.

Why skin changes during exams

  • Less sleep and irregular hours.
  • Stress. See stress and skin habits.
  • Snacking on fried or sugary food.
  • Not drinking enough water.
  • Touching your face while reading.

The 5-minute exam routine

Morning

  1. Wash your face with a gentle face wash.
  2. Apply a light moisturiser.
  3. Apply sunscreen if you are going out.

Night

  1. Wash your face to remove sweat, oil and dust.
  2. Apply moisturiser.
  3. Go to bed.

That is it. Exam weeks are not the time to try new products, because if something irritates your skin you will not have time to deal with it. See our 5-minute skincare routine.

Study habits that help your skin

  • Keep a water bottle on your desk and refill it.
  • Keep hands off your face. Rest your chin on your hand less often.
  • Wipe your phone screen and keep your desk clean.
  • Take a short break every hour. Stand up, stretch and look away from the screen. See screen time habits for skin.
  • Get some daylight and a short walk if you can.

Sleep

All-nighters feel productive, but tired minds and tired skin both suffer. Try to protect at least 7 hours of sleep, keep a similar bedtime and switch off screens a little before sleeping. Read sleep and skin and skincare after late nights.

Study snacks

  • Fruit, such as a banana, apple or orange.
  • Roasted chana, makhana or peanuts.
  • A small handful of nuts. See nuts and seeds for glowing skin.
  • Curd or buttermilk.

Go easy on chips, biscuits, sugary drinks and lots of cups of tea or coffee late at night. More ideas in healthy snacks for glowing skin.

If you get a breakout

  • Do not pick or squeeze it.
  • Keep washing gently twice a day.
  • Do not scrub harder or pile on new products.
  • If breakouts are painful or keep coming back, see a dermatologist after exams, or sooner if needed.

Look after yourself

Exam stress is real. Talk to friends, family or a teacher if you feel overwhelmed, and ask for help if stress is affecting your sleep, eating or mood.
